Dynniq has been awarded a five year contract to deliver the Traffic Signals Asset Renewal (TSAR) programme to upgrade existing traffic signals equipment across the UK City of York, which is looking to reduce its annual maintenance costs. Over five years, the programme will see Dynniq replace around sixty traffic signal junctions and crossings with completely new equipment to a newly developed standard York specification. These installations will utilise the latest traffic controllers from the Dynniq PTC

US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx has announced 18 infrastructure projects across the country that will receive federal grants as part of the new FASTLANE program. The grants, totalling nearly US$800 million, will be combined with other funding from federal, state, local and private sources to support US$3.6 billion in infrastructure investment in 15 states and the District of Columbia.

The Washington DC-based Alliance for Transportation Innovation (ATI21) is a new consortium of innovators, experts and researchers and is headed by former US DoT and Defence Department insider Paul Brubaker. The non-profit organisation aims to increase public awareness of the benefits of transport innovations and to lobby leaders and lawmakers on behalf of its members.

The US Department of Transportation (USDOT) awarded three cooperative agreements collectively worth more than US$45 million to initiate the design/build/test phase of the Connected Vehicle Pilot Deployment Program. Selected in 2015, the Connected Vehicle Pilot sites include Wyoming, New York City and Tampa.

The Nevada Center for Advanced Mobility (Nevada CAM) and its partners, including the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC), are calling on technology solution providers to submit, via a Request for Information (RFI), creative approaches, technologies and products to improve pedestrian safety in southern Nevada, where pedestrian fatalities are rising as the community grows.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and Transport for London (TfL) are to proceed with the North-South Cycle Superhighway to King’s Cross after majority support in the recent public consultation. The plans, which will also benefit pedestrians with wider pavements and more crossing points, were supported by 70 per cent of the public.

The first phase of an urban sensing Array of Things project has begun in Chicago with the installation of the first of an eventual 500 nodes on city streets. The sensors will collect data on air quality, climate, traffic and other urban features, kicking off a partnership between the University of Chicago, Argonne National Laboratory and the City of Chicago to better understand, serve and improve cities.

The first European Day Without A Road Death (Project EDWARD) is taking place across Europe on Wednesday 21 September. Devised by the European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL), the initiative aims to draw attention to the average of 70 deaths occurring every day on the roads of Europe. Project EDWARD has the support of European Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc, the European Commission, the European Transport Safety Council and traffic police forces from across TISPOL’s 30 member countries.
