New roads targeted in updated Safer Junctions programme

London’s Walking and Cycling Commissioner, Will Norman, has named the 73 junctions in the Capital with the worst safety records as he unveiled a new approach to delivering improvements for pedestrians and cyclists. Transport for London’s (TfL’s) new analysis uses the last three years of casualty figures on the TfL road network to identify the junctions with the poorest safety records so that they can be targeted for work. Gridsmart deploys new traffic-time collection system in home city

Dutch C-ITS project publishes results

Researchers have published the results of a three year project on developing and testing Cooperative ITS (C-ITS) on a 17 km stretch of the A58 motorway between Eindhoven and Tilburg in the Netherlands in a live traffic situation. Nevada begins installation of enhanced driver information systems

The Nevada Department of Transportation has launched a project to install enhanced roadway signage, ramp meters, wrong-way driver detection systems and more to help improve traffic safety and mobility on US 395 in the North Valleys. The project commences in early April and will continue through to 2018. Ramp meters, or traffic signals, will be placed at the top of certain freeway on-ramps, to help reduce congestion and enhance safety by more evenly metering the flow of traffic merging onto freeways.

Berlin to expand bike lines, approves self-driving car test

Officials and cycling campaigners in Berlin have agreed to budget about $53 million (€50 million) a year to expand bike use with the goal of reducing car traffic in the German capital, according to Associated Press.
