Lime is allowing riders to rent a scooter without downloading or even opening its app.
In a blog post, Lime says riders can use Apple's App and Android's Instant App features to scan a scooter's QR code and start a ride using Apple Pay or Google Pay.
Zach Kahn, senior product manager at Lime, says: “This new feature makes Lime more accessible to riders, including those who are new to our platform and haven’t downloaded our app yet."
"With app-less riding, new riders can try out our service without the process of downloading our app, and regular riders can cut out several steps to quickly start a ride. We know our riders are on the go and we want to get them on their way as seamlessly as possible."

Lime has also set out to strengthen its scooter operations in Europe.
Last month, the micromobility firm joined an e-scooter coalition to aid the development of a policy framework that will support the transition to zero-emission urban mobility.
Elsewhere in the business, Lime is taking steps to improve its electric bike service in the UK. The company confirmed Pedal Me is now moving its e-bikes to parking zones and delivering them to service centres to ensure they are fully-charged for users.
