Neuron is to deploy 800 electric scooters next month, followed by 200 e-bikes later in the year across 130 square kilometres of Christchurch, New Zealand.
Both fleets will come with an app-controlled lock that secures a helmet to an e-scooter in between trips, topple detection, a 111 emergency button, voice guidance to educate riders on how to ride safely and a ‘Follow my Ride’ function.
Neuron says geofencing technology will also be used to control where e-scooters can be ridden and parked, and how fast they can travel.
Riders will be able to unlock an e-scooter for NZD$1 and travel at 45 cents per minute. A subscription service is available with three-day (NZD$25), weekly (NZD$33), or monthly (NZD$45) options.
Users can download the Neuron app from the App Store or Google Play.
Largescale deployments of e-scooters have also been taking place in other parts of the world. In September, the New York City Department of Transportation confirmed Bird, Lime and Veo are pledging up to 3,000 electric scooters in a new pilot.
