With the ubiquitous use of transponders for ETC globally, many operators are using hand-held terminals with apps that can verify vehicle identity and collect tolls to reduce queue times and traffic jams at multi-mode toll plazas.

Mobility as a Service (MaaS) drives the idea of change in transportation. And right now, transportation needs this change.

The State of Yucatán saw the increasing need to build its transportation management infrastructure to aid Mérida’s quest to join the next generation of smart cities. While the worldwide reduction of vehicle emissions is a crucial goal, one unfortunate by-product is the ever-reducing fuel tax revenue stream that could eventually spiral down to zero.

IRD has announced its iTheia video-based traffic counting and classifying system that uses artificial intelligence (AI). Instead of classifying vehicles based solely on axle spacing or vehicle length parameters, iTheia classes vehicles based on visual input and a machine learning algorithm.
