Electric Miles' smart charging platform is to control around 100,000 electric vehicle (EV) chargers that Project EV will deploy in the UK.

Electric Miles says the three-year deal will provide thousands of EV owners with access to a suite of services, including automated charging at the cheapest time, saving them money and protecting the transmission and distribution grid from excessive demand at peak periods.

Smart charging allows motorists to save 40% of their charging bills, the company adds.

The Electric Miles app gives drivers control over the charging of their car. Users can also see the level of their car's battery to make charging more automated.

Additionally, Electric Miles is integrating its intelligent smart charging platform with its demand side flexibility services, where it balances EV charging with grid constraint.

The company will match EV charging to meet grid constraint following signed deals with three unnamed distribution system operators who are responsible for managing grid local congestion.

Electric Miles founder Arun Anand says: “Our Smart Charging platform puts motorists in total control of how and when they charge while also helping the grid to deliver power efficiently.”

“From the start we developed our software as a service platform to be hardware agnostic,” Anand continues.

“It can work with any Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) charger in the market.”

Project EV CEO Simon Peat says: “We believe this deal will revolutionise the way vehicles are charged from dumb to smart. Using one of our advanced chargers integrated with Software from Electric Miles will allow drivers to charge their vehicle with the right amount of power at the cheapest cost. This is future-proofed cheaper driving.”
