Leonardo is evolving its portfolio of multimodal transport solutions with the e-Nobu on-board control unit for buses, metro and trains.

The Italian company says that, with the integration of 5G, Vehicle to Everything (V2X) and ITxPT, e-Nobu offers intelligence, safety, security, connectivity and reliability.

Features of the unit include localisation via satellite; voice and data communication between control unit and vehicle; integration and management of all on-board systems; embedded switch and support of a GBit LAN; passenger counting and occupancy assessment; and management of information displays with text-to-speech functions.

The company has also updated its Matrics-AVM control unit by integrating 5G, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things interconnection into it.

Leonardo says this move addresses "new mobility trends such as Big Data analysis to support planning, predictive diagnostics and increasingly adaptive service regulation" as well as safety.

Meanwhile its Matrics VS4000-T device makes the VS4000 Tetra radio unit certified for rail, with end-to-end data encryption of on-board to ground communications.
