Yesterday’s AASHTO International Day saw a variety of events taking place to celebrate the scope of transportation’s reach. Open to everyone, and an integral part of the ITS World Congress, it’s the 18th year the American Association of State Highway and Transportation, in partnership with the US Department of Transportation, has brought together transportation officials from around the world to look at the transport challenges and opportunities facing public agencies.

This year’s day focused on Transformation by Transportation and featured the latest ITS solutions and mobility technologies from around the world.

Laura Chace, president & CEO of ITS America, outlined what visitors to ITS World Congress could expect to see this week. There were two roundtables – one on the transformation of transportation and one on ongoing technology innovations. Delegates heard keynote remarks from Roger Millar, secretary of Washington State DOT and incoming president of AASHTO, and contributions from Shawn Wilson, secretary of Louisiana DoTD and AASHTO president, along with Jim Tymon, executive director of AASHTO.
